Reports To: Building Principal

 

Job Goal: The Paraeducator is responsible for supporting and assisting students in various school settings.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate's degree OR 48 semester/72 quarter credits from an accredited college or university OR passing score of 455 on the ParaPro Assessment. ParaPro Assessment must be completed within 90 days of employment.
  • Bilingual/Biliterate in Spanish/English.
  • Ability to work with students.
  • Willingness to continue education as opportunities provided through the school.
  • Basic typing and computer skills.
  • Ability to keep accurate records or daily student contact.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Must be patient, compassionate and persistent.
  • Must pass physical.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Assist the teacher in lesson plan preparation; one-on-one & small group instruction; classroom management; student observation and assessment.
  • Complete the Fundamental Course of Study (28 hours of continuous training, provided by District) within first year of employment.
  • Administer and record the WIDA assessment.
  • Communicate with parents and staff in a variety of school settings as instructed by the teacher.
  • Supervise students in the classroom, cafeteria and on playground.
  • Collect data and report student progress.
  • Maintain accurate data collection records.
  • Provide positive behavior management support.
  • Participate in staff meetings, in-service programs, workshops and seminars.
  • Report to supervisor regularly about the schedule and atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Adapt teaching methods to achieve student goals.
  • Participate as a member of the education team. May attend parent conferences.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Terms of Employment:

  • 180 work days with paid holidays outlined in the PSE bargaining agreement
  • Hours: 6.75, Monday-Friday

  • Evaluation: Annually 
  • House Bill 1115 requires all paraeducators to meet common statewide standards. To meet these standards, you must be at least eighteen years old and hold a High School Diploma or its equivalent; and have passed the education testing service assessment for a paraeducator. Exemptions to the paraeducator test is that you hold an associate's degree; have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits in high education. You will be conditionally hired pending meeting one of the requirements listed, within 90 days of employment. Testing information will be provided.
