Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma and/or possess a GED.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak fluently in English and/or the language spoken by migrant parents, spouse and/or a student at home.
- Must be able to work with people, be patient and willing to help parents, and/or students with questions and provide resources, etc.
- Must be able to travel and possess a Washington State Driver's License and automobile insurance.
- Must be able to attend regional and state in-service training.
- Schedule must be flexible, in order to work evening hours when needed.
- Must be able to complete accurate and timely reports.
- Must have the ability to develop relationships between the home, school and community.
Migrant Student Advocate, Graduation & Attendance Specialist Responsibilities:
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, independently, cooperatively, and collectively by identifying, prioritizing and problem-solving unique needs of migrant students.
- Works in collaboration with all district schools, grades K-12, migrant education program students and families regarding their attendance & progress at school.
- Works with school principals, counselors, and teachers to create and serve building case load of migrant program students needing regular check in, academic/behavioral support, and monitor student response and progress as a result of these interventions.
- Facilitate small group and/or one-on-one opportunities for students to receive academic support and access to positive social and extracurricular opportunities with other peers (study hall, lunch groups, clubs, sports, etc.) - May also include leading migrant specific clubs or courses relative to culture, heritage, native/home language.
- Serve a s communicator between student, family, and all district schools, grades K-12, to problem solve attendance and/or school work completion barriers related to qualifying migratory work or temporary moves.
- Coordinates referrals to services aligned to students needs that are available through the school district and/or community to reduce and/or eliminate identified barriers.
- Coordinates with High School Principal and High School Counselor to:
- Organize and facilitate support for migrant high school students, especially 12th grade seniors, on school assignment and project completion to ensure credit acquisition and progress toward completing graduation requirements.
- Complete motivational check ins to support student's exploration and planning for post-secondary education and careers.
- Encourage and support students throughout the scholarship and/or financial aid application process.
- Communicates effectively, regularly and appropriately with school teams and Migrant Program Director
- Completes other duties as assigned by the Migrant Program Director.
Migrant Education Program Recruiter Responsibilities:
- Actively identify and recruit all eligible migrant children residing the school district/community from 0 through 21 years of age. This includes:
- Survey the area on a regular basis to confirm the location and presence of migratory workers/movers and their families.
- Develop an identification and recruitment network with organizations and agencies that provide services to migratory workers/movers and their families.
- Complete a Certificate of Eligibility according to state/federal guidelines for each eligible migrant family immediately upon arriving to the school district/community (students in school and out of school).
- Annually revalidate all families' most recent qualifying move information.
- Share with migrant parents and students' information regarding the Migrant Education Program, as well as school services/programs available to them.
- This includes instructional programs, MSIS, physical exams, alternative educational programs, and options for Out-of School youth, preschool programs, adult basic education programs, GED programs, post-secondary opportunities, etc.
- Refer migrant families to appropriate health, social or legal services in order to meet the needs of the migrant student's successful participation in school.
- Prepare documentation such as a recruiter log, which reflects all recruitment time and activities.
- Attend all required training sessions provided for the recruiter by the Migrant Education Program.
- Attend and document proceedings of local migrant education program Parent Advisory Council (PAC) meetings.
- Completes other duties as assigned by the Migrant Program Director.
