Job Goal: To promote, facilitate and strengthen family engagement. The Family Engagement Coordinator will list parental involvement in students' educational programs and site activities; provide support services; facilitate post parent, school and student relationships.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree in Human Service, Education, Adult Education, Human Development, Social Work, Psychology, or other related field is preferred
  • Washington state Teaching Certificate preferred
  • Experience in family support
  • Bilingual Spanish-speaking preferred
  • Ability to adhere to legal statutes, organizational rules, etc.
  • Demonstrated evidence of the ability to follow instructions and to participate in and benefit from in-service education
  • Experience working with community agencies and the development of programs
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both written and verbal form
  • Knowledge and experience with computers, including Word and Excel
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment
  • Knowledge of basic math
  • Ability to read and follow instructions
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to schedule activities
  • Ability to collate and work with data utilizing specific, defined processes
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of staff

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Assess family and student needs for the purpose of developing an action plan to remove barriers to a child's success in school
  • Promote the development of partnerships and, meaningful communication between schools and families
  • Assists parents in a variety of areas (health, nutrition, living skills, budgeting, job skills, goal setting, etc.) for the purpose of developing an action plan to remove barriers to a child's success in school and supporting the family in basic life skills
  • Meets with parents at school or in children's homes for the purpose of enrolling students in educational programs, interviewing parents, discussing attendance, informing parents/students of school and/or community resources and providing child development and parenting information
  • Support student success through the GHS School Improvement Plan and action steps
  • Participates in workshops, meetings, community events, etc., for the purpose of maintaining skills, receiving and/or conveying and presenting information, as well as complying with district, state and federal requirements
  • Performs daily work duties following a flexible start and end schedule as dictated by family and community needs for the purpose of maintaining communication and being available to provide support services
  • Performs casework services with individual students and families, in conjunction with district staff and outside agencies for the purpose of providing support and referrals to improve student progress and ensure the families ongoing involvement in the educational process
  • Refers students and their families to outside agencies (e.g. state agencies, medical professionals, mental health professionals, foundations, charities, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the needs of students and families are met in order to maximize their educational experience
  • Reports suspected incidents to appropriate parties (e.g. physical, sexual and/or substance abuse, contagious diseases, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining students personal health and safety and adhering to Education Code, district and/or school policies
  • Serves as a liaison between students, families and service agencies, while working collaboratively with Goldendale School District personnel, for the purpose of working to improve communications between all parties
  • Serves as a member of the Goldendale School District Truancy Board for the purpose of supporting students and families with regular student school attendance
  • Services as a school liaison in truancy proceedings for the purpose of communicating between juvenile court and appropriate Goldendale schools personnel to ensure that court dates and proceedings are being regularly transmitted so students can participate in the process of maintaining attendance requirements
  • Provide school staff with professional learning opportunities on effective family engagement strategies
  • Participate in professional development as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned 

Terms of Employment:

  • Contract: 180 days 
  • Benefits: Medical, Dental and Vision

  • Pay: DOQ
  • Position dependent on LAP funding
